Book: Next Time Lucky: Lessons of a Matchmaker
Author: Siggy Buckley
Genre: Fiction : Contemporary Women
Cherie is a woman who is happy with her life in her native Germany until her husband, Bernard, decides to chuck it all and move his family to Ireland to become a farmer. Cherie is not too keen on this, dislikes animals and doesn’t even own a pet, but she decides to follow her husband. Bernard says that she can come or not but he was taking the kids and going anyway. To keep some semblance of a family she agrees to move. Bernard is a very unromantic type of person, while Cheri seeks love, companionship and lots of sex of which her husband of over 15 years cannot provide. After much soul searching she finds that this is not the life for her and as the children are older she decides to leave her husband and move to Dublin.
In Dublin she starts two businesses, one is a dating service and the other is a wine business. Even with these successful businesses she is still not happy so she decides to ‘try’ out the internet chat rooms, because she feels it is unethical to utilize her own business to garner a social life. Cherie now finds herself on dates with all sorts of men. She is not promiscuous by any means, she is just looking for Mr.Right. The men that online services match her up with are a mixed array, from divorced men looking for a good time, commitment phobic, to the sex addict. In her business life she finds that her type of Dating Service business is going by the wayside; the internet has taken over as the way to find a mate. Because of this she is forced to sell this business and focus solely on her wine business.
Next Time Lucky is the story of a woman who wants to be with a man for life but still wants to keep her independence and be with someone who will do the occasional romantic dinner, someone to travel with and most of all someone to love her and who she can love back with all her being. She spends a lot of time traveling to England, France, and Spain to meet these men and hopes to find the right one. She fills herself with hope prior to each ‘date’ but is disappointed each time. This book is full of humor, quirky characters and practical advice for those who want to enter the world of cyber dating. Does Cherie find what she is seeking? Not telling, you will just have to read the book to find out. The tale is told with humor and knowledge of the dating business, which is due to fact that this story is based on the author’s own life. I found this book to be a very enjoyable read.
