Author Interview – Tamela Miles

Interview with Tamela Miles

by LaShawn Williams

1. What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?

Answer: I’ve always wanted to visit Maine because it’s the home of Stephen King. It’s always been a desire in the back of my mind – the whole “someday” thing. I have an author friend who has family in Hawaii and it’s a big part of her heritage and her writing. I’ve visited Kauai and spent a great deal of time soaking it all in – the vibrant, tropical colors, the lovely beaches, the tasty food.

2. Does a big ego help or hurt writers?

Answer: A big ego may work for other writers, but not for me! *laughing* I try to keep it as humble as possible. I truly appreciate every reader and their responses, even the not so great ones. I’m always mindful of other authors’ advice, while blazing my own trail.

3. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Answer: It all depends on the kind of day I’ve had. *laughing* There are times when I hop out of bed after midnight with an idea that I simply must get all down on my PC. Those times, I’m energetic like I’ve had five cups of coffee. Then, there the days when I shuffle past my PC and scowl because nothing is coming to mind like lightning and I’m exhausted.

4. What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?

Answer: I’m good friends with author, Lelani Black and she truly inspires everything I write. She has the innate ability to zero in on what’s right with a manuscript and what could be improved and works a lot better. She’s brilliant at what she does.

5. What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?

Answer: I had an advanced vocabulary by the time I was ten. I began to realize that language has power when I consistently received overwhelmingly positive responses from my English teachers about my writings. When my friends read my stories, they always wanted more.

It’s “hands off” for Tomas and Nahla, while she’s his witch ward in danger, but the steam between them makes that vow difficult to keep in novella “The Runaway Witch’s Kiss”. The story is from Ms. Miles and Satin Romance (a Melange Books imprint), arriving in 2020. This is
