Princess Elena has been living under a curse. Not the usual sleep curse that allows some prince to kiss her and wake her like other princesses get. No, this one is set to last one hundred years, and it’s going to hit when she turns 18 in a few weeks. She’s been researching a way to get rid of the curse her aunt put on her as a baby and nothing seems to work.

To complicate matters, her bodyguard has had his leg broken and has assigned his annoying son to guard Elena.

That’s about as much synopsis as I feel comfortable giving away. This book is one that starts off as a different look at the Sleeping Beauty legend, but quickly blossoms into a great teen read complete with psychology-practicing magic mirrors, undead sorcerers, and a family of guards with a reputation to uphold.

Elena is fun, she’s constantly trying to get away from the curse, and sometimes just wanting to get away from everyone. This curse stuff is making her obsessed. Cameron, or Cam, is hilarious as the bodyguard who takes his job very seriously. There’s a prince from another realm who is trying to get her by any means necessary so he can go back home and prove his worthiness to be King by “rescuing” a princess, and he’s not beyond illegal shenanigans to achieve it.

There are some twists and turns, the story about the aunt and why she cursed her in the first place was interesting. The lengths that have to happen to unravel it are very well done. There was enough great story to keep me interested and I know the average teen who reads paranormal will like it.
