A bright new year, a sparkling marriage, and bundles of rambunctious puppies…

Still aglow from their winter holiday wedding, Winifred and Leo return from their honeymoon to the warmth of their cozy Colorado mountain town of Estes Park. Watson, in all his chubby corgi grumpiness, happily settles in to napping with his stuffed animals by the fire and steering clear of customers in the Cozy Corgi Bookshop & Bakery—except when snagging crumbs and treats.

The honeymoon bliss comes to a screeching halt on a stormy night as a fatal car crash takes the life of a newcomer in town… and leaves Fred to comfort an adorable puppy. But while Fred and Leo fall for the new bundle of hyperactive fluff, Watson expresses mixed emotions about his new role as big brother.

Mysteries abound in a case lacking a murder. But Fred is certain she’s not barking up the wrong tree. As she and Watson sniff out clues and unravel deception and sinister plots, every dog will have his day… and find his forever home.

(This culinary cozy mystery includes a recipe for delectable No-Bake Snickers Chocolate Cheesecake.)

Never boring, #24 in Mildred Abbott’s Cozy Mystery Series, continues with the new year…..In the last book, Winifred and Leo marry at the book store in an enchanting holiday wedding and go off to Aspen for a short honeymoon.

We find them driving back to Estes in a raging snow storm, the 5 hour trip entering its seventh hour. With no time in between, Watson and Winifred are cast into another mystery.

Watson’s Vet has his niece Leah in town working at his office as a tech, wishing to follow in her uncle’s footsteps. So it is a terrible tragedy when Winifred, Leo and Watson come upon a slippery side road with a car that has run off the road. Investigating they find Leah dead and Winifred’s gut feeling was it wasn’t an accident.

This book was as always really good, but there were some extras I found hitting home….

In this story, Leah has a new puppy that is found with her in the car….Leah’s family is out of state and the Uncle is devastated so Winifred brings him home. Watson has been the king in her life for years now and is trying after the ‘growling’ to be a good big brother. .Through the entire book the chaos in their home and book store is exhausting with them having new member and a very unhappy older sibling ….It is at this moment ‘I see myself’….I had adopted a kitten a year and a half ago and had the same relationship with my Shadow as Winifred has with Watson…..We are a team!!

My friend adopted a kitten from Puerto Rico after the storms there and now can no longer keep her and asked if I would take her. I saw the same horror in my boys eyes when she entered the house. Then, there was his total rejection of me. It’s now been a few months and he is starting to forgive me !!!! I certainly empathized…..

The other thing was in the solving of this mystery, we were brought into the Crypto Currency world with our team being as mystified as I am in that world….My grandson and I have a joint account….I gave him some money to try it and he manages it…..I can’t fathom all the language and I was a broker for 25 years….

Needless to say I loved the book, the puppy, and can’t wait to try the Cheese cake snickers!!!!
