Writing Realistic Fight Scenes with Laura E. Perez
July 16-22, 2018
Laura Perez is an author/publisher with Palmas Publishing. She spent fifteen years working in Corrections and Victim Services while privately working on several novels. In 2010, she was given the opportunity to pursue two passions in life, writing and martial arts. She is a 3rd degree black belt who loves to write fight scenes and act them out for realism. Through Palmas Publishing she has published two full length novels under her pseudonym, L.E.Perez, has spearheaded two thriller anthologies with a group of Indie Authors called The Thrill of the Hunt Anthologies and has helped her mother achieve her dreams of publication.
Originally from New York, she made her way to Orlando, Florida in 2012 after thirteen years in Scranton, Pa and twelve years in Northern Virginia. With a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a thesis shy of her Masters in Cultural Anthropology, she is an avid people watcher and finds all manner of things to write about here in Orlando, Florida. You can find her at the local theme parks enjoying a cup of coffee or an ice cream, or at the Central Library in Orlando, volunteering and doing workshops for aspiring writers.
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Creating characters, a locale and a scene are one thing, people are people after all, but how do you describe the action going on? Whether you are writing about a street fight, an explosion in the middle of a war-torn village, hand to hand combat, or a mind-numbing rock climb with no hope of survival, how do we add life to that scene? How do we use our words to transport the reader into the scene as one of your characters? The possibilities are endless but they must fit your characters and the stories. So, let’s Bring That Action Scene to LIFE!
