Police officer Finnigan Pettaprin’s life is his job. He’s driven to be the best, always. Past relationships have largely been heartbreaking, so he keeps to himself. The last thing he expects is for a near-disastrous car chase through town to bring him in contact with Mark, the one who got away.

Mark Wallace hasn’t had the best luck in life. He managed to get out of Chicago with his freedom and his son, Lonnie, and needs help. Finn is the one friend he knows he can count on for a temporary place to stay, and possibly more. He’s hoping for a new start in a new town with a new job, but with his parents threatening to try to take his son, nothing is easy.

Finn takes Mark in and helps him get his life back on track. Along the way, the two men grow closer as they realize that what they both have always wanted is now in reach. But the intersection of Mark’s past and a string of local robberies threatens to upend the small family they are just starting to build and could give Mark’s parents the ammunition they need to destroy everything.

Another wonderful story by a wonderful author. Every time I get a book of his to read and review, I am thrilled.

Police Officer Finnigan (Finn) Pettaprin is involved in a car chase that almost causes an accident with an innocent driver. The innocent drive happens to be the man he has always had a crush on and who was his close friend, Mark Wallace. In the car is Mark and his four-year-old son who just happened to be on the way to Finn’s home for help.

Mark has always cared for Finn but unfortunately, he fell into a bottle and got involved with the wrong people leading to him being arrested where he immediately helped the police. He went to a rehab center to dry out leaving his son for three months with his parents who now want to get full custody. Mark has gotten a new job but needs enough money to get an apartment so he asks Finn if he can stay with him. Finn has always been there for Mark and now it was no different.

Since high school the two men knew they wanted the other but neither was willing to come forward and act on their feelings. Now those two men find themselves sharing a home and their excuse for not pursuing what they have always felt for each other is that if it didn’t work out it would destroy their friendship.

While Mark is trying to do the best for his son trying not to resort to his old ways he can’t stop feeling like a failure. His parents still want to take his son and he questions whether he is doing a good job and it is Finn that gives him support. Then the past comes calling when there are home break-ins very similar to what Mark was involved in in the past and he tries to help but his memories of that time were clouded by alcohol.

Two men who have kept their feelings for each other a secret now have a chance for the love they always were afraid to reach for but will they finally give in to their feelings. A little boy who deserves to have a secure and happy life and a mystery that needs to be solved.

As with all the books I have read by Mr. Grey I read it in one sitting waiting to see if I would get the HEA I always expect.
