Vern Roberts couldn’t wait to turn eighteen and get the hell out of Dogpatch, California. But city living is expensive, and he’s damned desperate when Dex from Johnnies spots him bussing tables.

As “Bobby,” he’s a natural at gay porn. Soon he’s surrounded by hot guys and sex for the taking, but it’s not just his girlfriend back in Dogpatch—or her blackmailing brother—that keeps him from taking it. It’s the sweet guy who held the lights for his first solo scene, who showed him decency, kindness, and a smile.

Reg Williams likes to think he’s too stupid to realize what a shitty hand life dealt him, but Bobby knows better. What Reg lacks in family, opportunity, education, and money, he makes up for in heart. One fumbling step at a time, they connect, not just in their hearts but in their bodies, where sex that’s not on camera, casual, or meaningless, becomes the most important thing in the world.

But Reg is hampered by an inescapable family burden, and he and Bobby will never fly unless he can find a way to manage it. Can he break the painful link to his unrealized childhood and grow into the love Bobby wants to give?

Was it six years ago that this series began? As a true lover of Amy Lane, I find it extraordinary the amount of tears I have shed…The Queen of angst with a capital A, the woman never ceases to amaze me with her writing.

Then again if you look over the 10 or so years I have been reading her work, this fine author has written so many genres, it could make your head spin. Greens Hill was her beginning for me. It was the fantasy world of vampires, were wolves, fairies, angels and Cory, Green and Bracken…..Dusting herself off we had a sci-fi with A Solid Core of Alpha, Historical with Beneath the Brambles, not to mention Deacon and Crick and entourage in Promise Rock. Shifting to WW2 with The Bells of Time Square. See what I mean?

Her virtues extolled, I come back to this series, like I never left it. Again like all her writing, the reader is so drawn in, we know these people, like family. The “Boys” are growing up, growing out of porn, one year at a time. Chase, Dex, Ethan, John are still g here, only thing are changing at Johnnies, like the times.

Vern Roberts comes to town, leaving his Mom and his girlfriend back home in the small town of Dogpatch. With the promise of work in construction, he leaves for Sacramento to earn enough money to bring his Mom away as well. The job does not work out, so waiting tables he meets the guys at Johnnies, and one thing and another he is now Bobby Green the Porn Star!

The fear he had at his first scene, was stilled by the sweet guy holding the lights . Reg Williams has been burdened since he was a child with a sister with mental illness. With no schooling Johnnies has supported them and he is one of the older Johnnies stars. His lack of education has people seeing him as a dummy, making him believe that.

This story of the two of them finding each other is the magic only Amy Lane can write.

The emotions you must go through for these two young men is so worth it !! So I can only advise PLENTY of tissues and a ‘beverage’ of choice for the reader, because you are going on the ride of your life. Loved it….
