Book one in the Laurentian Mountain Clan series

Her mysterious past holds the key to protecting his clan.

Between helping teens at an After-School Art Club and trying to publish her granny's fairy tales, Chantelle's life still feels somehow unfulfilled.

When his father and older brother died, Charles was forced into the role of Alpha. Three years later, he still hasn't dealt with the loss. Now a rival pack is stirring up trouble in his grandmother's hometown, and he must investigate.

But that is only where the mystery begins. There's something else going on and it starts with the mysterious and beautiful Chantelle. The secrets of her past and her untrained magical abilities hold the key to the rival pack's attacks. And when they discover that sorcery is behind the violence against women and children in the territory, they have to trust each other and forge a connection.

But is their bond strong enough to protect the pack and fulfil a Fated Mates prophecy, or will they lead the pack, and their love, to ruin?

Chantelle Mizuki is living in her grandmother’s cottage that became hers when her grandmother died. Chantelle runs an After-School Club for at risk children and when one of the students needed her, she lost track of time and found herself leaving in the dark and her keys locked in the car. Her grandmother always warned her about walking in the woods after dusk but now with her car unavailable to her she had only one way to get home and that was walk.

The woods proved to be as dangerous as her grandmother warned when she was attacked by a pack of wolves. She managed to use magic she was unaware she had but it was the arrival of a new set of wolves and her neighbor shooting at the wolves with a rifle that kept her alive. She passed out and woke up in a strange bed trying to remember what happened and being treated for her wounds.

Charles Ducharme found himself the alpha of his pack when his father and older brother both died in a car accident. It has been three years and Charles is still trying to deal with what happened and protecting his pack. On the insistence of his brother’s, he decided to visit his grandmother the very neighbor that came out of her house shooting and whose home she is in. Chantelle insists she is well enough to go home but when a body of a young girl is found mauled to death by a wolf and the fact that wolves tried to kill her Charles makes sure he leaves some of his pack to watch over her.

There is an instant attraction between Chantelle and Charles and his brothers and his wolf insist that she is his Fated Mate and she would be instrumental in helping them defeat the Trois-Rivieres pack who wants to control their territory. Whenever the two of them are near each other they feel a strong connection but Charles is afraid that a relationship would hinder him in caring for the pack. If he has to worry and care for a mate the pack would suffer.

Chantelle has to learn to use the magic she had no idea she had, Charles is determined to keep her safe when he finally acknowledges she is his mate but there is danger and evil heading their way and there is hope that Chantelle is indeed the one who would save them. Someone has kept Chantelle’s magic buried to keep her safe but now is the time to unleash it and learn how to control it.

This book has romance, sex, secrets, lies and betrayals. Chantelle and Charles are wonderful characters who had a past connection they didn’t remember. This is the first book in the series and I can’t wait for more. Everything I love in a paranormal romance is in this book and my only complaint is that I have to wait for the next book in the series.
