Seventeen year old Alexis Tolis’ life was changed when she was twelve years old, when her mom and dad were brutally killed and her older brother Chase disappeared presumed to be dead. For the last five years she has lived at the Fairmont Boarding School on a scholarship and her only friends are Pierce and Caitlin. If not for them she would not have survived her past and even with them she still suffers from nightmares.

Hunter Daniels is a transfer to the school and Alex is asked to show him around. Unfortunately her first impression of him left her less than happy for the job. Alex keeps her past a secret even from those she considers family but for some reason she reveals more to Hunter than anyone else. She reveals her belief that a serial killer called Mid-West Ripper is after her and is closing in on Colorado where the school is. The girls who are killed have the same hair, eyes and birthdates so her belief is not farfetched.

Hunter has secrets and whenever Alex asks him about his life he manages to change the subject. He also seems to have supernatural tendencies, his speed and his appearance whenever she is in trouble which is often since she has made being clumsy an art form. This is her last year at the boarding school but she has no idea what she is facing in her future and no idea who and what her friends are.

As I was reading the book I was sure I wasn’t going to love it but when one surprise after another happened I realized that I couldn’t put the book down. When I say surprise I literally mean OMG surprises. The book ends with a lot of unanswered questions which I am sure will be addressed in book two, the only bad thing about that is waiting till it comes out.

Wonderful characters, secrets and surprises, this book had it all.
