This book can definitely be read as a stand alone. Set in an alternate New Orleans, where all kinds of paranormal creatures exist, Tanisha D Jones has created an amazing world. There is something for shifter fans, vampire fans, fans of every pantheon, adventure fans, romance fans…. And it is done really well.

There is even romance for both fans of MF and MM stories in this book. My favorite part of this book was that while Jones managed to keep all of those elements, she also included moments that made me laugh. The humor was an unexpected gem in this book. It speaks to her ability to create chemistry on the page that both the romantic and sex scenes AND the humor felt so natural in the story. Nothing felt forced.

Celeste is a fierce and likable main character of the story. Her history could have crushed her, yet she never loses her humanity. Remy had me laughing in the first chapter. His ability to be unapologetically himself was so refreshing. And Karim. Sigh. Without giving away anything, I just want to hug the big ancient vampire. I could seriously list all the characters with lovable descriptions. Without fail, the cast of characters involved in this story were all intriguing. Suffice it to say, I definitely recommend this story for paranormal fans.
