Blake gives us a paranormal retelling of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice…with Izzy a member of a very eclectic family of witches and Darcy as warlock. You do not need to have read the classic to read this book, but it does follow the timeline of the original, and some subtle humor references may be missed. Overall, this was a fun take on this tale. The take on the Bennett’s was not as deftly done as the original story, with the family being pretty annoying throughout the story. The romance between Izzy and Darcy is slow burning, with not much happening on page or off. I would have loved more romantic tension than what seemed more like simple hostility between these two.

I love the premise of the retelling. There were some decisions that just made it less successful. As a book one, there was a lot of information to follow up on in future books, and it will be interesting to see if Blake follows the path set by Austen or moves it in her own direction.
