Nathan Maguire is a Guardian of Danu, and he possesses a deadly psychic gift. He also has a checkered past. As a young man, he spent time in prison, where he learned the rudiments of tattooing, a skill he has built into a successful business in Tampa, Florida. He’s content with his life – until a beautiful FBI profiler walks into his shop.
Talia Werner has come to deliver an urgent message from one of the other Guardians. The trouble is no one outside that select group is supposed to know they exist. Nate doesn’t believe Talia and suspects she is up to no-good. Meanwhile, she finds out a woman was brutally murdered not far from Nate’s shop. This is the third such killing in the past two months. A serial killer is loose in Tampa.
Working with the police, Talia discovers all three of the victims bore a blue butterfly tattoo, one of Nate’s designs. Suspicion falls on him but quickly points to other tattoo artists. Enlisting his aid in meeting and interviewing them, Talia develops a growing attraction to the man, who isn’t at all what he seems to be on the surface. Nate returns her feelings and their relationship heats up.
However, the killer is still on the hunt, and he knows Talia is after him. Will the stubborn woman accept Nate’s protection or will she be the murderer’s next victim?

Nathan Maguire is a Guardian of Danu with a dangerous gift, but his time is spent running his tattoo parlor and trying to stay out of trouble. Nathan had a past that sent him to prison and he is trying to put that part of his life behind him. Everything changes for Nathan when Talia Werner, an FBI agent, walks into his parlor with a message from Dev Medina advising him to call and talk with Michaela, another Guardian.
Talia used to be partners with Dev. When he asked her to go to Tampa and relay a message to Nathan, she did so without question. Talia felt she owed Dev, and she was going to repay that debt. Nathan gets the message, but does not believe it for a second. Why would a Guardian send a message through an FBI agent? He has no intention of making the call. Undeterred by Nathan’s refusal to make the call, she refuses to leave Tampa until Nathan does what is expected of him.
In the meantime, while trying to get Nathan to call Dev, a third dead body is discovered not far from the tattoo parlor. Talia agrees to aid the police department in finding the killer before more women are found mutilated. It becomes clear that Talia is the next one on the killer’s list. Nathan is determined to protect Talia even though she is more than capable of protecting herself.
It only takes a short period of time before Talia and Nathan are falling for each other, but there is still the problem of who the killer is and what will happen when Nathan reveals who he really is. Added to that is the fact that Talia loves her job and lives and works out of D.C. Is there any hope for a relationship between them?
The killer’s identity was a surprise and the only reason the story didn’t get five stars is because it all seemed to be very rushed. This is not to say I didn’t enjoy the book, but it just wasn’t my favorite in the series.
