BREATH: Tierney and her husband, Rob, have been married for five years. The only thing that they totally disagree over is his interest in demons. Tierney teaches kindergarten and suffers from asthma; breathing is a daily chore. She makes a remark after her last asthma attack which changes her life and makes Rob’s belief in demons a reality.

ONE: Ethan Fallows has been in love with his best friend, Anya James, since high school. They are now in their second year of college and their hobby is to write stories together. After years of unrequited love, Ethan decides to take matters into his own hands and uses black magic. Now Anya hears his voice in her head in addition to many others. He has found a way to mind bond between them and now she will always be his. Anya is convinced the voices in her head mean she needs to be in a psychiatric hospital under medication. However, Ethan warns her if she continues to take the medicine he will kill her family. Believing he means what he says, she seeks the help of a Wiccan to undo what Ethan has done. To find out what happens to Anya and Ethan, you will have to read the story.

EX-GIRLFRIEND: Ginni Taylor and Christian Castro have been dating since high school. They are very much in love, up until the day that they visit a tarot shop and Ginni sees the Death Card. The woman reading her card insists it does not always mean death but sometimes means something is going to happen in your life, and in this case it does. Soon after Christian sees Ginni with a man wearing a black leather jacket and helmet riding a motorcycle. Although he realizes he has lost Ginni, he still wants her safe. He feels this man is dangerous, and he is right. Who is the man on the motorcycle? Why did Ginni go with him and leave Christian?

A LITTLE BLOOD BETWEEN FRIENDS: Delilah and her friend, Vivian, are heading to a bar where Delilah McCade is to meet a friend of her brother’s. What she doesn’t know is that the friend, Ash Lockler, is a vampire, and that her brother Declan sold her to him as a blood donor. Declan has many debts. He didn’t hesitate to sell his sister to wipe them out. After she is glamoured, Ash joins her in her apartment, but he feels sorry for her. She doesn’t deserve a brother like Declan. What happens in her apartment?

THEA’S MIRROR: Thirty-year old Thea is unmarried and childless. She teaches elementary school and in a dream, her grandmother appears to tell her she is a witch. Her grandmother warns her to be very careful of what she sees in a mirror and not to touch it. Thea disregards her grandmother’s warning and faces something unbelievable. To find out what it is, you will have to read the story.

DISTURBIA: Two friends, Daniel and Lucky, live in a small California town known as Rancho Tehama and attend the community college. The town has been plagued by a serial killer, a maniac that stabs young women to death. But the killer is the least of their problems when they find out that they live in a fictional town and are characters in a book. They are part of Jayden Kinlan’s “The Mad World Series.” Somehow they come to life and are doing things of their own free will.

SUMMER 2 YEARS LATER: After Daniel left without a word to Lucky, Jayden wrote a whole new life for him in another fictional community with new family, friends, and new dreams. The only thing he wants is to be reunited with Lucky. When he finds her, he explains everything to her. He tells her they are characters from a book and he finally gets to make love to her. Just as he found her again he lost her, when she became the newest victim of “The Baby Doll Killer.” His heartbreak over losing Lucky is nothing compared to what he finds out about himself. He wants Jayden to bring Lucky back, but can she?

CADDO, TWO DAYS LATER: Lucky McCall was the way Jayden breathed new life into the daughter she lost. Now Jayden has lost her daughter all over again, but she has time because she has more books in her series to go and anything can happen, and probably will.

CUSHION: Carin Bell has a new car, a new book coming out, and a new fiance. However, she will never get to enjoy any of them. Her new car is a tangled mess and she is standing outside looking in at her dead body. There is just one thing she wants to do before she goes. She wants to find and punish pop star, Billy Chambers. Carin and her friends used to follow him and his band from town to town, only to be insulted by him over and over. His nickname for her was Cushion, because she was fat and unattractive. Now she wants him to regret what he did and become a new person. According to Carin the world has more than enough dicks in it, and he should not be one of them.

ONE YEAR LATER: Billy has changed, but is it for the better? This is a very short story. I don’t want to give anything away, so you will have to read it to find the answer as to what happens to Billy.

ROCK: Ten year old Vanessa Chase rides her bike like other kids her age. Unlike other kids, she looks for cats, entices them with bacon, then catches and kills them. What can you say about a little girl who after she says her prayers at night for her mother says, “Dear old man in haven, I’ll kill as many thinks as I want to” right after her mother leaves the room. Naturally killing animals is only the beginning. It won’t be long before she kills another child. I found this story very disturbing in many ways and it was more than just Vanessa that I found disturbing. I can’t recommend anyone reading this story.

PAPER: Zach Guyler and Naomi Halpern have been engaged for three years. When Zach discovered she was cheating on him he didn’t just yell and leave. He had sex with her and then did the unforgiveable.

6 MONTHS LATER: Having relocated after killing Naomi, Zach moved to Caddo in Northern California where he got a job just to make ends meet till he moved on to bigger and better things. The next victim on his list is his supervisor who had the nerve to give him a bad review that cost him his job. What he did is something you will have to read for yourself.

SCISSORS: It is Christmas and Aldous Parker can’t get over the loss of his three year old daughter, Michelle, who died last Christmas in an accident. He has been married for five years to Michelle’s mother and is going home to celebrate Christmas, his way.

CHRISTMAS, THE YEAR BEFORE: It was a year ago on Christmas that three year old Michelle, the love of her father’s life fell while holding a scissor. How she fell is something I don’t want to give away.

This is a compilation of previously written stories and some new ones. Although I had read many of the stories in this book, I enjoyed them all over again. These are stories about ghosts, witches, demons, and things that go bump in the night. Some of the stories I found very disturbing. Others I would have enjoyed if they were written in the order things happened. That was the only reason I didn’t give it five stars.
