As soon as I receive a book by Lisa Kessler, especially one of her shifter books I know that I am in for a great read filled with great characters, suspense, surprises and secrets and this is one of them. A new start to a new series and from start to finish I couldn’t put it down.

This is a series about the Sedona Pack, a pack without an Alpha, without real direction and filled with guilt. The former Alpha was crazed with a desire to increase his pack and he did it by biting innocent men and women and then locking them up till he felt they were safe to be around. Once he was overthrown the pack was just a bunch of werewolves without purpose and leadership.

Asher Mateo is one of the men who were bitten, one day a man and the next a werewolf. He knows that he can leave anytime he wants but the only thing holding him back is Naomi and her twin boys. Naomi was also one of the bitten and the mate picked for her died while fighting the Alpha leaving her a single mother of two. Asher and Naomi are great friends and he loves her and the boys but he refuses to acknowledge the fact that his feelings go deeper than friendship.

The jaguar Assassins from the Nero Organization are now trying to find a new home and they have set their sights on Sedona meaning the werewolves are in danger, especially since the jaguars can sense there is no unity in the pack without an Alpha and it is a weakness the jaguars are only to happy to take advantage of. None of the born werewolves are willing to take over and the elder werewolves are hesitant to accept an Alpha that was bitten such as Asher. Naomi is sure that Asher is a born leader but is it a job he wants and if he did would the other pack members be okay with it.

Naomi and Asher begin to accept that there is more to their relationship then friendship but attacks by jaguars especially aimed at Naomi and her boys have made Asher reconsider whether he could be the Alpha and protect the pack and the woman and boys he loves. I will say that the highlight for me were the boys Bart and Ben two little werewolves way bigger and smarter than a human boy under three and with big ears and mouths. They brought a smile in spite of all the suspense.

What happens to the pack, who the new Alpha will be if any and what happens between Naomi and Asher I leave for you to find out and believe me you won’t be sorry.
