After holding off the New Watchers at the tomb of a fallen angel, Rafe and Alec are back with a new adventure. The Praesidium has gotten a tip that the New Watchers are on the hunt for the legendary ring of King Solomon. Traveling the globe on a continent-spanning adventure, Alec, Clemy, and Enoch the misanthropic computer have to unravel the mysteries of conflicting information. But as Alec and Rafe grapple with the gun-toting New Watcher armies, they find themselves tested in other ways. Rafe still hasn't told Alec everything - and Alec is about to learn just how far secrets can go.

This is the second book in the Watchers and definitely needs to be read as a series. It is a separate adventure but all of the characters are continuing from book one.

In this book, it feels like R.R. Pearl has found their groove in writing action and adventure. This book reads so much easier than the first one, possibly because of less focus on the romance between Alec and Rafe. There are still some dialogue inconsistencies that chafe, but overall a much more enjoyable read.

The detail and research of the artifacts and areas that Alec and Rafe are investigating is astounding. Alec has moved up in his Prasidium world and is challenged with more danger and continuing drama. Thankfully there is again the humor and snark of Clemy and Enoch to lighten up the danger. There is a satisfying end with just enough loose threads to tease readers for future books. Fans of action and adventure will enjoy these books.
