Bitten by secrets. Broken by truths. That’s the trouble with beasts.

From bestselling and award-winning author D. Fischer, arrives the highly anticipated Howl for the Damned, a series for fans of Mercy Thompson, Bitten, and Alpha and Omega.

All Jinx Whitethorn wants is to discover a life outside of a coven she could never fit in with. She’s a witch born without magic, and a woman with a handful of problems to keep her company at night.

Determined to find some answers, Jinx digs through old family secrets layered with choices of desire and loyalty. What she learns about herself makes her wish she never went looking for answers in the first place.

Jacob Trent, the alpha of the local Riva Pack, stumbles into the middle of Jinx’s secret while trying to solve several shifter murders in the nearby town his pack protects. She’s a threat. Dangerous. An impossibility.

While bringing the troubling woman to heel, Jacob discovers Jinx’s family history has made her the prey of a hunt she isn’t prepared for.

The Trouble with Beasts in the first book in Howl for the Damned, a series based in the world of D. Fischer’s Divinus Kingdom. Divinus Kingdom is interconnecting novels that branch one series to the next.

Jinx Whitethorn is a witch with absolutely no magic, and because of that she has left her coven to go out on her own. Unfortunately, she has become a target for shifters in their human form and has no idea why. The only thing she does know is that when her life is threatened and she is certain she is going to die, she finds herself waking up somewhere else and safe. She doesn’t know what happened during the time she was unconscious and is determined to find out, but the answer she seeks will change her life.

She lives in a small apartment on top of a bar owned by a shifter, Cinderson (Cinder) who takes care of Jinx. Cinder takes no money for the apartment or for the liquor she consumes. He has elected himself her protector but has no idea what has been happening to her. What he does know is that shifters are being found dead with their throats ripped out.

Jacob Trent is the alpha of Riva Pack, once a large pack but now decimated since the Realms War. Jacob lives with the constant guilt of the pack members who died, friends he couldn’t save. His pack has made it their mission to help him find a mate something he refuses to do since he can’t put the war behind him. When he sees Jinx at the bar, he can’t take his eyes off her. When she leaves the bar leaving behind two dead shifters, he knows that she is responsible. He wants answers and the only one that can give them to him is Jinx herself, so he kidnaps her.

Taking Jinx into his pack for answers and protection, he puts the pack in great danger. It doesn’t take long before he and Jinx get the answers they are searching for and discover who and why she is being chased. She won’t get any help from the coven since they are not very accepting of those who are different and she certainly is different. She does get her mother to reveal things about her father that help lead to who and what she really is.

Although this is a series based on the World of Divinus Kingdom and they are interconnecting novels that branch from one series to the next, this is the first book I have read, not the last. It had absolutely no effect on my enjoyment following Jinx and Jacob as they search for answers and fight the enemy after her. There is more to come. Although I did not get all the answers, I was definitely not left feeling disappointed.

Bring on book two! I am hungry for more.
