Paint It Black (Beneath the Stain Book 2) By Amy Lane

REVIEWERS: SHE SAID – Gloria Lakritz / SHE SAID – Melissa Brus

Everybody thinks Mackey Sanders’s Outbreak Monkey is the last coming of Rock ’n’ Roll Jesus, but Cheever Sanders can’t wait to make a name for himself where nobody expects him to fill his famous brothers’ shoes. He’s tired of living in their shadow.

Blake Manning has been one of Outbreak Monkey’s lead guitarists for ten years. He got this gig on luck and love, not talent. So hearing that Cheever is blowing through Outbreak Monkey’s hard-earned money in an epic stretch of partying pisses him off.

Blake shows up at Cheever’s nonstop orgy to enforce some rules, but instead of a jaded punk, he finds a lost boy as talented at painting as Mackey is at song-making, and terrified to let anybody see the real him. Childhood abuse and a suicide attempt left Cheever on the edge of survival—a place Blake knows all too well.

Both men have to make peace with being second banana in the public eye. Can they find the magic of coming absolute first with each other?

Ahh Amy it wasn’t enough you killed us with the first in the series with Mackey and Trav’s path>>>>>we had to return?

I was scared I tell you….But the visit to the family we learned to love was a wonderful visit in how they had gotten on since we last saw them. I typing this wearing my OUTBREAK MONKEY shirt and living the dream!

Cheever the youngest was a blip in our view then, and Blake a part of the family at that time….so who knew what was going on with them? So, now the pain begins as we learn what was going on with baby boy Cheever and Blake at that time. Amy you are one scary lady….This book was magic! Must say 496 pages of magic!

You have taken me from excitement, crying my eyes out, to the depths of horror and pain …. Exhaustion !!! …..and Halleluiah they might make it!!! I can’t explain how you do this; I only know that you do…

This is the second book in the Beneath the Stain series. Holy wow.

Fans of Beneath the Stain are gonna be SO happy with this next story in the series. Remember Cheever? The little brother? Yep. He grows up and he does it with all kinds of chaos and pain in his wake. Those Sanders boys don’t seem to do anything the easy way.

And then we add in Blake Manning, who we learned a little about in the first book, but we didn’t know the half of it. So watching these two damaged boys figure out how to be adults together is a fireworks show.

Their story is a bit less angsty than Mackey and Trav’s path believe it or not. Their story is so interesting and I might have stayed up way too late so I could get to the happily ever after part. Amy Lane takes these guys on a path that leads them through all kinds of emotional adventures (She tortures these poor guys, but guh it is so very good).

My favorite part of this story was seeing all of my favorite people from the first book again, learning more about them, and seeing them all move through these lives they have built. I love seeing them from Cheever and Blake’s perspectives as well. Definitely recommend this book. It is so good!!!
