Twenty-three year old Lisa Chambers thinks she has the perfect life. Married fourteen months to the love of her life, Robin Chambers, and moving to Temple, Georgia, she is in a good place. However, darkness will soon change all that. A ride at night with her husband ends with him dead and her seriously injured. She wakes up in the hospital unaware of the fact that Robin is dead. She only knows she has a badly broken leg and is being treated by Dr. Daniel Walker, the only orthopedic doctor in Temple.

From the moment Daniel sees Lisa he is smitten, but he always maintains his doctor persona. As long as he is treating her, he will not make a move. Besides, she is newly widowed and has just found out she is pregnant. Daniel is not the only man who wants Lisa. There is also Drexl Van Dorff, a wealthy man who owns Land’s End Island. Drexl saved Lisa’s life by pulling her out of the burning car. There is a long history with Drexl and Daniel, one full of hatred. Daniel is part Native-American and the island once belonged to his people. The island is considered cursed, and Daniel’s people believe an evil God resides below the waters.

It takes weeks before Lisa is able to leave the hospital. At home, she is visited by Drexl in the morning and by Daniel in the evening. There is no way either man wants to be near the other. Lisa can’t help but be attracted to both men, and she keeps wondering why she doesn’t cry for Robin. How she can even think of moving on so soon after his death? Unfortunately, there are powers controlling Lisa, powers that are evil and want her. It doesn’t take long before she believes she is in love with Drexl and she unkindly sends Daniel on his way. Staying with Drexl at Land’s End, she sees many strange things and has horrific nightmares about a creature laying on top of her. She pushes everything out of her mind and believes everything Drexl tells her.

Even when Drexl reveals his family history, which I will not divulge but will say was awful, she doesn’t turn away from him. She accepts what she sees in the village, and the residents are just as awful as his history. Everything happening on the Island and all the past obscenities that occurred all came from an agreement with an alien race that wants to enter Earth and conquer and enslave man.

There is an awful lot going on in this book and it is all exciting and suspenseful. I had a difficult time trying to figure out the genre. This book had it all, suspense, fantasy, monsters, love, and a taste of sci-fi. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next in the series.
