They never knew what hit them.

A hooker with a heart, falling for a Vice cop? This is no Hollywood movie, and if they want a happily ever after, it's not going to be easy.

Detective Randy Michaels is back with Vice, working to help NYC crack down on its prostitution problem. When he suspects Jesse Bryant of soliciting, Randy is torn between duty and his knowledge of what put Jesse on the streets. Jesse is clearly struggling, and he isn’t the only one. Recent events have forced Randy to question his sexuality, and a shocking encounter with Jesse plunges him into a crisis of conscience.

Jesse didn’t think his life could get any worse. His family cut all support, his education is on hold, and he’s surviving the only way he knows—selling himself on the streets. Of all the people who could have offered him a helping hand, why did it have to be Randy?

Two men carrying their own personal burdens: How long will it take them to realize that what they really need is each other?

This story is a fantastic second installment of the Love Unexpected Series. All of the characters from Debt make an appearance, but the focus is on Jesse Bryant and Detective Randy Michaels. While I think this book could be read as a stand alone novel, there is so much history that would be missed, that I truly feel it is so much better read in series. This story is at its most basic, the cop and the hooker with a heart of gold, but even the characters involved know that only ends in a happily ever after in romance novels. Wells takes this idea and gets the reader involved due to her skill in creating such intriguing characters. Jesse is facing so many changes in his life. He has been cut off by his parents in every way. With no more money for his education and living expenses, he is couch surfing and escorting has gone from a fun way to make extra cash to being the only way he is surviving. Randy Michaels is the object of Jesse’s crush. Of course he was unattainable because not only is he a Vice cop but a straight Vice cop at that. Their worlds keep intersecting, causing Jesse to question his job and Randy to question his sexuality. The happily ever after takes some work from both of these beautiful guys, as well as with some help from their friends.
