Derek Miller is a Seattle detective and the alpha of his Seattle pack. Every night he and others from his pack work at keeping the streets safe for humans who are totally unaware of the things that go bump in the night. The vampires have proved to be the worst to rid the city of since if you kill one five more appear. A full moon makes the weres much stronger and the usual vampires are no match since they are new and totally unaware of the strength the werewolves have.

Riley Price is a psychologist who has recently moved to Seattle to be on her own. One night she hears what she believes to be the sound of howling and like every horror movie we have ever seen instead of fleeing she gets out of her car and stupidly seeks out the noise. She is attacked by a drunk while Derek and his men are fighting off the vampires and in their wolf form. It is Derek who saves her once he shifts back but there is an immediate connection when he sees Riley and for some reason he is determined to make sure she is safe.

Riley questions whether she is going crazy or not because she can’t get out of her head that she saw an actual werewolf because the idea of their existence dates back to her mother, a story you have to read for yourself. She meets Derek in his role as detective but soon realizes that he is the same man who saved her in the alley. As much as he realizes being involved with a human is not one of his smarter moves since the last time he was with a human nothing good came of it and he is sure that would be the same with Riley he is a werewolf and he and his wolf know what they want. The head plays no part in their decision.

When it becomes apparent that Riley has attracted the vampires to her and that her safety is in question Derek is more determined than ever to protect her and he knows that he will not be able to live with himself if anything happens to her. Riley also is trying to figure out why she has this uncontrollable desire to be with Derek and when put together whatever thoughts they had about it being a bad idea fly out the window.

Vampires are after her but why? Damaris the Queen of Vampires seems to want Riley and she is not easy to destroy. Riley can’t live her life hiding and Derek and her must find the answer to why she is a vampire magnet. As their relationship grows so does the danger to her life. There were so many secrets and surprises in this book and as much as I would love to reveal them since they were quite exciting I will refrain from doing so.

I loved Derek and Riley as a couple and as individuals, he is out there protecting and she in spite of all that she has been made aware of stands strong. I love vampire and werewolf books and this one has them both in spades. I highly recommend this book especially if vampire and werewolf genres are your favorites.
