Fleur Fenwick and her fraternal twin brother Alain Guerrer are Firebinders and have been on the run ever since discovering the bodies of their parents. Although they have both changed their names and relocated, Fleur to England and Alain to France they know that their lives are always in danger from the Shadow the being that has been killing Firebinders including their parents.

Fleur has been working for the last few years at the mansion of Benedict Craven-Hoyle translating and repairing ancient manuscripts along with fellow conservator Ellery. When Ellery is murdered and Fleur is sure it was done from the Shadow, she realizes that her life as well as her brother’s is in immediate danger. Everything changes for Fleur when she interrupts a group of kids from hassling an elderly couple and she comes face to face with a Scatha Cruor, a monster that changes in front of her and who she doesn’t hesitate to stab with her crochet needles.

Ewan Blair, a Cynn Cruor witnesses Fleur defend herself and doesn’t hesitate to go to her defense. Ewan takes Fleur’s memory of what happened in order to keep the existence of the Scatha and the Cynn Cruor from being revealed only it doesn’t take and Fleur knows that there is a lot going on that she is unfamiliar with. She has become part of a world that she could never have imagined.

If you are familiar with the Cynn Cruor series than you know that they are immortal and half vampire and half werewolf whose existence is to destroy the Scatha and protect humans. If you have not read that series then I highly recommend doing so, it is well worth your time and money. I didn’t read book one in this series and being reunited with the Cynn Cruor was a delightful surprise. Now I get to read about Firebinders and have some of my favorite characters be part of the story. I loved watching as Fleur and Ewan’s feelings for each other grew.

This book had romance, sex, violence and everything you could want from a paranormal romance. I have loved every Isobelle Cate book I have read including this one. I can’t wait for more.
