Faith James finds herself in France searching for her younger sister, Hope. Hope is missing and on the recommendation of the French police, Faith is travelling to the home of Mason LanVal, a man they guarantee will be able to find the missing woman. Travelling in a strange country and on strange roads she thinks she is hallucinating when she sees her sister standing on the road causing Faith to crash. The only thing she can do is chase after Hope. She doesn’t get far when she gets stuck in a huge animal trap. As a surgeon she knows she is seriously injured and is unable to free herself. If she doesn’t get help soon, she will bleed to death.

Mason LanVal is an immortal blood knight, one of seven Guardians whose purpose is to protect mankind from beasts. He is the very man she was on her way to see and he is also her rescuer. Mason realizes that Faith is not totally human—she smells of otherness. He goes against everything he was trained for when he gives her some of his blood to save her life. Since she is not human there is no way of knowing what his blood will do to her and what she really is.

With no other choice, he takes her to Andre, a werewolf, to heal knowing without a doubt that the vampires would smell her blood and be after her. What he could never have expected after centuries of abstinence was finding himself drawn to Faith. He has no way of knowing if his blood caused a bond between them, since she also seems drawn to him. The only thing on Faith’s mind is her sister and now that she knows who her rescuer is, she begs him once again for help. Andre and Mason both know about her sister, where she is, and what she is, but it isn’t something they will reveal to Faith.

A vampire is causing havoc and breeding vampires in large numbers which is Mason’s first-and-foremost responsibility. However, he can’t get Faith out of his mind—literally. With the bond that has formed, they are able to speak to each other through their minds. Faith has found herself in a world she could never have imagined other than in books and movies. Finding Hope turns out to be only one of the problems that she will have to face.

Although Faith and Mason spend little time together their connection is strong. He has reasons not to pursue a relationship and when she discovers what he is , there is no doubt she won’t want one either. There are surprises, suspense, and discoveries. What is Faith, what is Hope, and is it possible for a Guardian to find love?

Love this series and highly recommend it to anyone who loves vampires, werewolves, and great characters.
