Delaney Frost is a teacher and counselor working at a California school and has set up a middle school behavioral program she is very invested in, unfortunately the school district does not share her feelings and at the end of the year her program also ends. She has also been suffering from asthma and pneumonia causing her to miss a lot of time, now heartbroken she looks for something new and finds it when she reads an ad for a counselor at Havenhart Academy in Arkansas, requirements, understanding, patience and the ability to handle children from ages 12 – 18 who have suffered trauma and who may be more than they seem.

Interviewed by Damien Preston, Director of Student Services she finds everything he is offering exactly what she needs only it requires her to uproot her entire life and move. There is an immediate bond between Damien and Delaney and without really knowing much about the school and the type of children she will be in charge of she willingly accepts.

When she arrives at the Academy she begins to question everything she sees and learns more about the students and the staff. Apparently everyone associated with Havenhart is gifted, Damien is a healer and insists that she is more than just a counselor, that she is gifted as well but has not learned how to harness that gift to its full potential. Although loathe to believe she is gifted she has an open mind and accepts what she sees in front of her. Her desire to help these children and bring them comfort is all she is focusing on, well not all, she seems to be unable to totally focus on a very handsome British man named Damien and he is having the same problem. What happens between them is not something I will discuss in this review.

Throughout the book we read about a young girl whose mother disappears and whose father abuses her, beating her anytime she doesn’t supply him with the information he seeks. This girl has the Sight and her father has her in his total control. Who this girl is and what happens to her is also something I will leave for you to discover on your own but I will say that what she suffers through is heartbreaking.

This is a book filled with amazing characters, romance and a man with powers beyond anyone’s imagination and a man whose focus turns on Delaney. The story held my interest from page one and I didn’t put it down until I finished it, that took one day. I can’t recommend this book highly enough and my only negative comment is that I have to wait for book two. There is no cliffhanger so I will just wait patiently for my next visit to Havenhart Academy and hope the author doesn’t make me wait too long.
