Abby Jenkins is the night janitor at the teahouse owned by Azaela and that is the place that hosts poker games for ghosts. If you read the Gambling Ghosts series which I highly recommend doing then you are familiar with the teahouse. Abby is a thirty-two year old widow with three children all under the age of six and with the encouragement of her Viking ghost boyfriend Eric Eklund she has now opened her own private investigation company. Money is tight and anything she can do to bring in more money she is willing to do.
This is going to be Abby’s first case and it is a case that involves diamonds and a haunted manor. Charisma Dubois has hired Abby to find the diamonds that her great-great grandmother has hidden. After trying to find them herself and coming face to face with a ghost she refuses to ever enter the house again and she is willing to pay a huge sum of money to Abby if she finds the diamonds.
Abby enters the manor alone since Eric has not shown up to assist her. Unknown to her is the fact that Eric has approached a warlock hoping to find a way to become alive again. Abby made it known that she was against his using magic and tried to discourage him but the thought of being able to hold Abby and love her is something he can’t get out of his head. Unfortunately dealing with magic can cause all kinds of problems and the deal for his becoming human again is for him to be the warlock’s assassin. Eric is offered a deal where he can have six hours with Abby free of charge, so to speak, because the magician has no doubt that once Eric has a taste of being with Abby he will agree to his terms but will he agree to it.
While he is with the warlock Abby is in the manor by herself and comes face to face with Aslog a draugr who appears as a zombie but feeds off human’s blood. She is an abomination that is also in the manor seeking a grimoire which should contain a spell to free her. Now Abby makes a deal she and the draugr will work together to find the diamonds and the book another deal that can only lead to trouble.
Abby and Eric love each other dearly but if Eric accepts the magicians deal he can have a true relationship with the woman he loves but that kind of magic is wrought with danger. Does Eric agree to a one time only freebee? If he does can he go back to the way their relationship is now? Can Abby actually hope to deal with a vampire zombie and come out in one piece? Well the answers are not mine to reveal.
There are surprises, magic and things that go bump in the night. What happens to Abby when she gets involved with magic and what happens to Eric after his meeting with the warlock are for you to find out since I already know lol. I can’t wait for more books in this series and the Gambling Ghosts series.
