A virgin queen determined to choose her own fate.

A scarred warrior marked by darkness.

And the king who will kill them both to keep the throne.

I was plucked from my ordinary, ho-hum life and plunked into a nightmare.

Abducted by a corrupt vampire king, I’ve gone from night classes to navigating the dangerous world of the Darkfell Clan, where the courts are a maze of deception, you test your wine before you drink it and never, ever sit with your back to a door.

They say I’m the strongest queen in a thousand years. Destined to overthrow the king and take back my kingdom. I don’t know about all that, but I know I can’t face him alone.

He commands a legion of monsters, but I’m building my own army, and though my bonded warriors are few, they love me. Together, we’ll defeat Viktor.

Or die trying.

I might be a queen, but this isn’t like any other fairytale.

Dungeons, castles, cemeteries., and swamps permeate this story with a dark gothic atmosphere fitting for a vampire tale filled with blood, sex, and violence. Night Marked is the first book in a series about an unseen world of vampire royalty.

On the surface, this is a story about defeating a corrupt vampire king. The underlying conflicts run a bit deeper and are built on the development of the core cast of characters. Seraphina, Luthor, and Cyrus, are each learning how to build trust, overcome self doubt, and create a new life from the ruins of the past. Their survival demands that they work on those conflicts together. Seraphina is the young college student whose life is drastically altered after she is kidnapped on her way home from Tulane University. Luthor is the angst-ridden commander whose failures are a heavy personal burden. Cyrus is the emotional touchstone for an expanding group drawn into the fight to defeat the vampire king. This varied cast builds a story that extends far beyond the traditional vampire tale of an ancient creature preying on a vulnerable young woman.

Seraphina’s education and background in science prove to be both an asset and a detriment as she learns to apply them to her new world that seems to defy the reality that she has been studying. Hopefully, as the series progresses, she finds a way to finish her degree, because she has the determination and intellect to make some helpful contributions to her chosen field. The story ends with the completion of one challenge, but the end result leaves a few questions about the future of the new vampire queen and her court. I recommend this book if you are looking for a steamy tale about a young woman growing into her power and position as queen in a hidden world of vampires.
