In this second book of the Evanstar Chronicles, Sara Codair gives us more of a unique and fantastic non-binary hero. Erin Evanstar is a teenager. Erin is also a demon hunter. As if the regular angst of those years isn’t enough, they now have to rescue their partner from the tentacled demon that took him.

Codair continues to walk that fine line between dark horror and hopefulness that was a hallmark of book one. Even when Erin and their family are faced with seeing Jose lose his life or the end of the world-literally, there is a thread of optimism that keeps the reader engaged and sitting on the edge of their seat.

This is a great second book. It lives up to the fun and intrigue that started the series and keeps the reader interested in seeing what could possibly happen next. I definitely recommend this for fantasy and YA fans.
