Dena Williams is a forensic photographer, photographing crime scenes. Dena has seen the worst of human nature but her real love is photographing landscapes and she heads out to put the death she just witnessed out of her mind. A serial killer is at work and she was the one who noticed a very clear fingerprint pointing to the killer.

Taking pictures of the snow and ice covering a lake she makes the mistake of walking on ice that was not as frozen as she first thought. Falling into the water, the only thing that saved her was that the water wasn’t deep but she fell and hurt her leg and her head and with all her strength she managed to see a house but no one answered.

Dimitri Kovac was born a strigori vampire who has put himself in a catatonic state for almost fifty years. Dimitri has waited and waited for his blood mate but finally gave up and in five days on Christmas Day which is also his birthday he will die. Even in a near death state he hears a call for help, a call he knows is coming from his blood mate only he finds her near death. A little of his blood begins the turn and he has five days to convince her to love him and take his blood two more times to complete her transformation into a strigori vampire.

The true sign of a blood mate is a birthmark and the same birthday but does Dena meet those criteria. Dimitri is honest with Dena and admits to what he is, only Dena does not run and hide. Five days for her to accept him and what he wants her to be, five days to search her heart and discover whether she loves this vampire she barely knows.

A short beautiful story of love and Christmas miracles or are Christmas miracles only for the living.
