Feather Woods is a lioness and a Native American and this story covers her life from the eighteen hundreds to the present. Feather’s best friend Paige and her had a fight recently and filled with guilt and a longing to get her friend back she visits Paige with a ready apology only what she finds is beyond belief. Paige has been brutally murdered, her eyes are missing as well as her heart and she has been set on fire. When detective Renegade Shaw and his partner Apple Shade arrive at the scene Ren is suprised to find the very woman he met in 1892 when she came for training to learn how to use her gifts. He fell for her immediately and now that he sees her again those same feelings reawaken. Unfortunately she does not recognize him and he can’t help but be a little disappointed.
It is at the second murder site that Feather is remined of who Ren is. She can’t believe that she forgot the man who was so kind and helpful to her when she arrived at the camp, how did she forget him is a question she can’t seem to reconcile herself with. The second murder is every bit as grisly as the first and once again Feather seems to know the murder victim only this time she was lucky in that the police arrived before her and she was saved from seeing another friend ripped apart. Some research done by Ren and Shade show that there were fourteen other murders attributed to this monster and each one had a link to Feather. She is either the killer or she is the reason for the killings. Ren prays it is that she is not the killer because his feelings for her are now stronger than ever.
The story shifts back and forth from the eighteen hundred to present following Feather’s life. Her life with her abusive alcoholic father and her protector her older brother Raine. Her time at the camp where she met Ren and her time at the Boarding School the Native American children were sent to in order to rid them of their heritage. I am not going to go into detail as to what happened during her time growing up because alot of what happens to her and Raine in the present is a direct link to what happened to them in the past.
The killings all began after the war in 1948 and has continued to the present. The killings are brutal and now it appears that the next likely victim would be Feather herself. Raine and Ren are determined to keep her safe and also Shade who Raine has fallen for. It took Shade being attacked by the killer to fully get Raine to recognize and accept his feelings for her.
The killings are brutally detailed and there are secrets and surprises though out this book which is the reason I read it in one day. I did not go into too much detail in my explanation of this book because I did not want to give anything away and spoil the next reader’s enjoyment. I will say that I couldn’t put the book down until I knew everything and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
