Aubrey Grant lives in the tropical paradise of Old Town, Key West, has a cute cottage, a sweet moped, and a great job managing the historical property of a former sea captain. With his soon-to-be-boyfriend, hotshot FBI agent Jun Tanaka, visiting for a little R&R, not even Aubrey’s narcolepsy can put a damper on their vacation plans.

But a skeleton in a closet of the Smith Family Historical Home throws a wrench into the works. Despite Aubrey and Jun’s attempts to enjoy some time together, the skeleton’s identity drags them into a mystery with origins over a century in the past. They uncover a tale of long-lost treasure, the pirate king it belonged to, and a modern-day murderer who will stop at nothing to find the hidden riches. If a killer on the loose isn’t enough to keep Aubrey out of the mess, it seems even the restless spirit of Captain Smith is warning him away.

The unlikely partnership of a special agent and historian may be exactly what it takes to crack this mystery wide-open and finally put an old Key West tragedy to rest. But while Aubrey tracks down the X that marks the spot, one wrong move could be his last.

After reading the Snow and Winter Series, which by the way I adored, I hunted up this young lady on Amazon finding two more books to buy… The author mentions on her Amazon page she has lived in numerous places as I have. Funny, I am from NY living in FL, But have lived in Los Angeles, Chicago, Maryland, Virginia etc see what I mean?

Snow and Winter series are set in NY, Joy and The Color of You set in New Hampshire and now Southernmost Murder is set in the Florida Keys where I’ve walked many of those streets as well.

We met Sebastian’s friend Aubrey Grant in the Snow and Winter Series. Aubrey has now moved to the Keys a few years ago, after a breakup. He has a job he adores managing an historical home of a sea captain now deceased.

His ex was an FBI agent and partnered with sexy Agent Jun Tanaka. Jun had reached out to Aubrey, hopefully to forge a relationship with him . Jun had fell for Aubrey when he was attached to his partner. Now that Aubrey is free they have been skyping and texting and flirting for a while now. Jun is flying down for a vacation to spend some PDA time with Aubrey to see how it goes.

The problem began with Aubrey finding a skeleton in the third floor closet, in the house he manages…. After reporting it,,,, it disappears. Jun arrives wanting a vacation, some sexy time with Aubrey; they are caught up in a murder, pirates, a missing skeleton, and a ghost calling Aubrey on his phone with warnings.

Aubrey who suffers from narcolepsy is trying to balance his illness. his new love life and solving a crime of the century in this quaint little beach town. This story was heartwarming, and sexy, and scary and mysterious. The banter between Aubrey and Jun is fun as the humor of this author is not lost on the reader. Aubrey’s one liners are adorable and funny..….Name it, it was all there.

I also liked the fact that this was written with people from Snow and Winter series, but is not part of that series per se. Aubrey does mention he ‘could go back to NY’ so Jun and he could be closer….Hmmm will see.

Think this is another winner for Carroll. Looking forward to more.
